Visas

Mozambican visas can be obtained from Mozambican embassies and consulates. You can request applications from an embassy directly, or you can use a visa service. A visa service might expedite the process, especially if you are traveling with a group. To apply for a visa, you will need a passport with at least 6 months remaining after your intended return home, as well as your flight itinerary and 2 passport-size pictures. You should apply for a single-entry tourist visa, unless you know that you will require a multiple-entry visa. Tourist visas for the US do require a letter of invitation. **When you receive your visa, please check carefully the details of what has actually been issued. The standard visa is valid for a maximum 30-day stay in the country and is valid for 2-3 months. That would cover the circumstances of most visitors, but for those staying longer than 30 days, you would have to drive out of the country and re-enter before that 30-day period expires—or be subject to a fine of $100/day after that for being in the country illegally. However, some visas are inexplicably issued for only a 15-day validity--or even as short as 8 days. The consequences of overlooking this could be very serious!
